Another retailer has signed up to take space in the £320 million Broadway shopping centre, it was revealed today.
Carphone Warehouse, the mobile phone retail chain, has exchanged contracts with Westfield, the Australian company behind the development.
In a bid to entice more tenants, Westfield bosses will promote the scheme at next week’s prestigious BCSC Conference & Showcase event in Liverpool, talking to national retailers.
A Westfield spokesman said: “We continue to make good progress with the Bradford project. Bradford remains one of our top priorities and we have great confidence in the future retail market in Bradford.”
Councillor Adrian Naylor, Bradford Council’s executive member for regeneration, met Westfield bosses today. He said: “Things are moving slowly, but they are still moving. On the back of the launch of their White City shopping centre in London, they are hoping they will be able to increase the number of pre-lets in the run-up to Christmas.
“Although we were not at the head of the queue when the White City development was ongoing, we are now one of the few shopping centres left to look at.”
Councillor Ian Greenwood, leader of the Council’s Labour group, said: “Westfield are clearly an organisation that has the critical mass to do such schemes.”
