Regeneration & Sustainability
Regeneration
The WhiteCity Works partnership was formed between Westfield London, the London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham, JobCentre Plus, Ealing, Hammersmith & West London College and Tendis. The partnership assists retailers and contractors to recruit locally, alerting residents and jobseekers to available jobs and to assist jobseekers to gain access to the right employment and skills training for jobs at Westfield London.

WhiteCity Works will operate a ‘Work Zone’ within the new Shepherd’s Bush library, which opens in late summer.
Transport & Infrastructure
We have invested over £170 million pounds into regenerating the local transport infrastructure for public transportation and major highways.
This included the development of the transport hub the Southern Interchange, which includes the remodelled Shepherd’s Bush (Central line) station, the new overground West London Line (Shepherd’s Bush) station, a new bus interchange, taxi stand and cycle routes.
A new station, Wood Lane, was also opened on the Hammersmith & City line – the first new station to be built on an existing and unextended line for more than 70 years.
Local Involvement
We work closely with the local borough to create a ‘borough of opportunity’ and have been pleased to accept invitations to join the Shepherd’s Bush Business Forum, the Borough Partnership and the Hammersmith & Fulham Visitor Attraction Group.
Sustainability
Commitment to the environment is a key concern for us. Some of the innovative sustainable practices adopted for Westfield London include:
- Glazed roof design which provides excellent natural lighting
- Acquisition of timer from auditable sustainable sources, as well as use of 50% recycled materials where appropriate
- Rainwater harvesting
- Facilities for waste separation and recycling
- A nature reserve
- Provision of pedestrian and cycle routes with 570 cycle bays in total
- Solar power to provide over 20% of the energy required to power the new White City bus station
- 60% public transport mode share
