“I want that extra ten minutes in bed in the morning” - Grace Saunders
We’ve all been that girl - desperately trying to apply mascara while fighting against the motions of the bus en route to work.
“I want that extra ten minutes in bed in the morning,” says Grace Saunders, author of new book, ‘Life’s Too Short’, and a journalist and mum-of-three who knows a fair bit about juggling.
If you’re a member of the beauty club who likes to hit the snooze button but still look her best, here are some shortcuts to save you precious time...
Cleanse: One part of your beauty routine you should never skip - otherwise a face full of spots may be on the cards. Opt for something like Sisley Soapless Gentle Foaming Cleanser, a little pricey at £60 but “never seems to leave the skin feeling dry like many other cleansers,” says Saunders. For a speedier cleanse, facial wipes will do the trick; Nivea Daily Essentials Gentle Cleansing Wipes are perfect for skin that’s on the sensitive side.
Serum: Fast becoming the new super-product on bathroom shelves, choose wisely and you can eliminate the need for a whole array of additional products - it can act as a primer, moisturiser and anti-ageing treatment all in one. Liz Earle’s Smoothing Line Serum is a value for money option, starting at £7.25.
SPF: Unless you have vampy tendencies and only head out in the dark, your skin will be exposed to sunlight - even on cloudy winter days. Save time and money by looking for an SPF factor in moisturisers and foundations (minimum SPF15) rather than investing in standalone protection. Try Estee Lauder DayWear Advanced Multi-Protection Anti-Oxidant SPF15 Creme.
Foundation: There’s a plethora of foundation, concealer and powder products on the market. Instead of buying them all, the trick is to pick a 2-in-1 product that delivers. MAC’s Studio Fix Powder Plus is both a foundation and powder that creates a lovely velvety matte effect.
Cheeks: “Brush a tiny bit of blusher in wide swoops to give tired-looking, lustre-less skin a little fresh-faced oomph,” suggests Saunders. Benefit’s Benetint is a great investment; apply to cheeks for a rosy glow and also on lips for a subtle stain.
Eyes: Never underestimate the power of lashes. If you only have time for one make-up product in the morning make it a slick of mascara for an instant eye opener. There’s nothing worse than having to mess around with multiple applications; DiorShow’s 360 mascara has a mechanical brush that automates the application process, effectively doing all the hard work for you.
Lips: For the girl on the go, applying lipstick on the move is never a great idea. Using a sheer gloss is an apply anywhere solution which has serious glam appeal. Clinique’s Long Last Glosswear boasts eight hours staying power, it’s a no-brainer!
