The Westfield Academy now offers courses in Retail and Hospitality.
Westfield Retail Academy is a 4 week course, 15 hours per week, working towards an accredited ‘Certificate in Retailing’ and a recognised Skills for Life qualification. The Hospitality Academy is just a 2 week course and aims to provide learners with an accredited food safety qualification.
The programmes are delivered by Stourbridge College and in partnership with Dudley College, Job Centre Plus and The Learning Skills Council and are conducted, in the main, from the Merry Hill Shopping Centre. The aim is to help potential employees become familiar with the Centre and its routines.
The Westfield Academy runs a pre-employment programme for local people, covering the basic skills required by employers giving the learner a thorough grounding in retail or hospitality.
It also offers successful learners support with CV’s, interviews and, where possible, an opportunity for a 2-week work placement within the Centre to demonstrate their ability to a potential employer.
Aligned with the Skillsmart Retail (the sector skills council for the retail industry) pre-employment course, these programmes will emphasise customer service and a can-do attitude as key skills.
