As one of the most environmentally efficient retail centres in the UK, Westfield Stratford City has been designed to achieve excellence in environmental sustainability, with some of the most stringent guidelines imposed on its construction and ongoing management.
Overall, there is provision at Westfield Stratford City for 2.9 million square feet of retail and leisure space, a 5 million square foot commercial office district, 1.3 million square feet of hotel space, and new homes and community spaces. 130,000 square feet of our Phase One high quality office space development is already under construction and due to open next year ahead of the Olympic Games. The office premises are located near the Stratford regional or Stratford international stations, with all the industry-leading retail and leisure amentities that the shopping centre has to offer on their doorstep.
The Athletes Village will have up to 2,800 homes completed before the Games with a further 1,500 following afterwards. As with the offices, these homes will be located with easy access to the shopping centre, leisure and transport facilities.
Westfield Stratford City will create a major new metropolitan centre for East London. A contemporary fusion of indoor and outdoor environments, it will provide a unique sense of place joining two major rail interchanges.
An imposing 24-hour lifestyle street acts as the central spine to the whole development linking John Lewis at one end with Marks & Spencer at the other. The street is flanked on the northern side by a three-storey shopping centre, playing host to independent operators and fresh food specialists in modern boutique-style shops contrasting with two distinct building styles on the south side, housing striking, sleek fashion stores and edgy urban brands.
Mirroring the pedestrianised street is another key circulatory route, the northern arcade; a 3-storey gently curving space with the proportion of Milan’s famous Galleria, connecting the two transportation hubs of Stratford Regional Station and Stratford International Station, as well as the two major anchor stores of John Lewis and Marks & Spencer. These two main routes connect through the magnificent central arcade, which showcases two levels of retail, a contemporary dining hall and restaurants with spectacular terrace views overlooking London’s Olympic Park.
