Prada's history is rooted in the early part of the Twentieth Century, when Mario Prada, Miuccia Prada's grandfather, opened in 1913 a shop of luxury goods in the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, a landmark of Milanese architecture in the heart of the city. In 1919, Prada was appointed Official Supplier to the Italian Royal Family and, as such, had the right to incorporate the coat of arms and knotted rope insignia of the House of Savoy into its trademark logo. The search for rare and valuable materials and for sophisticated manufacturing techniques became part of Prada DNA, and the constant quest for innovation are the values that Mario Prada wanted to pass on and which the following generations have been able to preserve and develop.
